Sega also said it urgently needs to improve profitability in its loss-making sports game software operations in the U.S. Sega had decided to compete head-on against Electronic Arts Inc. (NasdaqNM:ERTS - News) in the huge U.S. sports software market, but it has failed to acquire the market share it had hoped for.
"We'll have to
narrow down our focus in the U.S. sports game software business," said Kayama,
adding that Sega plans to completely halt developing such software on its own for Gamecube from next fiscal year. "However, we won't give up and will continue with the challenge" of competing in the U.S. against its arch-rival Electronic Arts, the COO said.

Étant donné que les ventes de Sega Sports sur GameCube étaient moins fortes que sur les autres consoles, ils cessent de la supporter (cessent seulement la série Sega Sports). Mais, en passant, est-ce que la qualité de NFL2K3 et NBA2K2 sur GameCube était identique/meilleur/inférieur à la qualité sur les autres consoles ? Ça prouve peut-être que la GameCube n'est pas priorisée pour les amateurs de jeux de sports. J'imagine que le jeu online y est pour quelque chose...
