Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 Released
Gran Paradiso Alpha 1, an early developer milestone based on the Gecko 1.9 branch, has been released. Gran Paradiso, a mountain group located in Italy, is also the project codename for Firefox 3. There are no significant user interface changes. Core layout and rendering changes include use of Cairo as the default graphics library, use of Cocoa Widgets for MAC OSX builds and new SVG elements.

Gecko 1.9 Alpha Coming Soon
The Mozilla Developer News Weblog is reporting that the trunk will be closed for Gecko 1.9 Alpha. This would be the first of many trunk alphas, which would be released every six to eight weeks.
The Mozilla Quality Weblog has announced a community test day, on Friday, December 1, 2006 running from 7:00am to 5:00pm Pacific Standard Time. This equates to 3:00pm Friday to 1:00am Saturday UTC/GMT.

Gran Paradiso Alpha 1 is being made available for testing purposes only, and is intended for web application developers and our testing community. Some of the changes in Gecko 1.9 Alpha 1 will affect the web and platform compatibility of Gran Paradiso Alpha 1:
Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME are no longer supported platforms
OS X 10.2 is no longer supported, and OS X 10.3.9 or higher is recommended
Moving DOM nodes between documents now requires a call to importNode or adoptNode as per the DOM specification.
